ABOUT THE COLOUR:
One of my favourite reads of all time is The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St.Clair. This book is a vivid story of culture and history told through the lens of colour. As a film photographer, I am constantly exploring the old times (and the new) through a camera lens, and so this book was an instant inspiration for this collection as it is yet another medium of exploration. With all of that in mind, I only saw it fitting to call the titles of the cases by the exact shade they depict. The short fact below is one of my favourites that the author, Kassia, chose to write to describe the colour and a fact that I would like to share with you!
“Obsidian, also known as volcanic glass, is formed when molten lava, erupting from the earth, comes into contact with ice or snow, and cools very quickly. It is very hard, glossy, brittle and either black or a very dark bronze-green, sometimes with a golden or iridescent sheen caused by layers of tiny gas bubbles that become trapped in the magma as it solidifies.”
