Ever stared at a sunset and felt so mesmerized you couldn't leave until it was gone?
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH: This photograph is of a magical salmon-coloured sunset that appeared while walking through Guildwood Park in Scarborough, Ontario. It was taken using a 35mm Kodak Retina IIa (1958) with Fujifilm ISO 400. When I look at this photograph, I feel tranquil as I sense the quiet night creeping in shortly thereafter. Sunsets have always been one of my favourite moments of the day, a unique point in time that has to be illuminated. Especially during these unprecedented times, we have been taught to appreciate nature, to spend more time outside and to stare at the sunset for an extra second as it is keeping us alive.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Originally born in Belgrade, Serbia, Tamara Masa (@timeilluminated on Instagram) is a film photographer currently based in Toronto, Canada. Tamara began her journey as a film photographer when she discovered her late grandfather's 35mm film cameras in September 2020, and ever since then she has been trying to capture moments in modern time through her grandfather's lenses. She has been featured in the Scarborough Arts 2020 'Big Art Book' as well as the Gallery 1265 'Telepathy' exhibition and seeks to tamper with time to find beauty in the madness that this 21st century brings.
"Time is a constant in history as well as a variable to be used for manipulation of that constant, and I think it is best tampered with through film photographs." - Tamara Masa
